The immediate past Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government of Delta State, Hon, Chuks Oseme, has donated N6 million to a Non-Governmental Organization, Ogbechie Save Life, in support of the organisation’s scholarship scheme for secondary school students.

Oseme, who made the donation at the graduation of seven beneficiaries of the scholarship Programme held on Saturday at the Council secretariat, Issele-Uku, called on well-meaning Nigerians to support the NGO’s humanitarian services to the less privileged in the society.

He commended OSL for floating the scholarship scheme and the beneficiaries for accepting to be educated, noting that the seven graduating children were admitted to JSS1 in 2015, with the NGO not only taking over their education, but also their entire welfare.

“I urge individuals, organizations and other stakeholders to support this NGO in giving these children qualitative education. In my little way, I want to be involve in the next phase of training 10 students and will support the NGO with N6 million, the former Council Chairman said.

Speaking at the event, the State Commissioner, Directorate of Humanitarian and Community Support, Mrs. Bridget Anyafulu called on prominent personalities to deal seriously with accountability and transparency on issues relating to the vulnerable in the society

Barrister Anyafulu revealed that the State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, in a view to ensuring an all inclusive government has called on well meaning individual across the state to impact on the society rather than leave everything in the hands of government.

She noted that such gesture would strengthen the State and the nation economically thereby building a foundation for peaceful co existence.

The Commissioner commended the Founder and Chairman of OSL-NGO, Mr. Osita Ogbechie for his efforts and determination to impact on the less privilege in the society, even as she called on him not to relent in his humanitarian services.

While congratulating the beneficiaries for the successful completion of their scholarship program, Hon Anyafulu called on them to be good ambassadors of the NGO, courageous, remain upright, and be careful of the kind of friends they keep and not to be carried away by quick acquisition of questionable wealth.

In his address, the President of Ogbechie Save Life, Osy Ogbechie, reflected on the challenges of driving the scholarship scheme, including the death of the patron of the NGO, funding, character moulding, adolescence, youthful exuberance, among others

Ogbechie said at every point there was either a waiting bill to pay or expenditure to make; pointing out that the organization took full custody of the children taking from their respective villages to Asaba where a special accommodation was provided for them for six years without a proposed budget.

According to him, “we had to get a manager for their boarding apartment. We also had to set up a counselling group which I chaired. We had weekly counselling and mentoring sessions with the students and did everything possible to avoid issues of cultism, rape, unwanted pregnancy and other social vices.

He said the seven graduating students received sound education under the scholarship scheme, having been trained, mentored and certified worthy in character and learning.

In her vote of thanks, Kikanme Ayo commended Mr Osy Ogbechie and the Foundtion for taking care of them and promised that they will continue to be good ambassadors of the Organization.

At the event included the Executive Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government, Hon Kevin Okwechime,  traditional ruler of Ugbodu, His Royal  Majesty, Ayo Isinyemeze, the Executive Assistant to the State Governor on Political Matter, Chief Emma Eboh, Hon.
