It was a morning of fitness, prayers, and purpose, as the Wife of the Governor of Delta State, and founder, You Matter Charity Foundation, Her Excellency, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, led women and supporters on a fitness exercise tagged “You Matter Walk for Life.”
The colourful event which took place on Saturday, October 18, 2025, began at Inter-Bau Roundabout in Asaba, the state capital, with participants walking through the Anwai–Illah Road to the Office of the First Lady at the New Government House.
The walk targeting 10,000 steps per individual, featured aerobic sessions, praise songs, and intermittent prayer stops.
In her remarks, Deaconess Oborevwori said the initiative was conceived to promote healthy living, spiritual renewal, and social bonding among women and families across Delta State.
“The goal of today’s walk is to achieve 10,000 steps! How do we reach this? By multiplying our individual efforts — one step at a time — walking together in unity and with a shared sense of purpose,” she said. Adding that, “A healthy body gives us the strength, clarity, and confidence to pursue our goals and fulfill our divine purpose.”
Drawing from 1 Timothy 4:8, the Governor’s wife encouraged participants to combine physical exercise with prayer for “total transformation,” emphasizing that holistic wellness; physical, emotional, and spiritual is vital for purposeful living.
She applauded the women for their massive turnout, describing it as a testament to their unity, enthusiasm, and readiness to support one another and the development agenda of the state.
She also commended the Federal Road Safety Corps, the fitness coaches, and the government house chaplain for their coordination, safety supervision, and spiritual guidance.
“We have prayed, stretched, danced, and shared in the spirit of fun and togetherness. My prayer is that we all return home healthier, stronger, and happier than we came,” she added.
Her Excellency assured attendees that the You Matter Walk for Life is not a one-time event, promising an even bigger edition in the near future.
Chaplain of the Government House Chapel, Venerable Charles Osemene, urged participants to embrace humility, unity, and service to God and humanity.
Leading the appreciation on behalf of the women, Mrs. Timiebi Guwor, wife of the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, thanked the Governor’s wife for her “motherly love, inspiration, and selfless concern for the well-being of Delta women.”
“We pray for divine strength and grace upon Deaconess Oborevwori to continue her charitable works and support her husband, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, in advancing the state’s development vision,” she said.
The event concluded with prayers for peace, health, and progress in Delta State, as the elated women cheered and celebrated the success of the maiden edition of the You Matter Walk for Life.
