The Delta State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has underscored the importance of responsible leadership, institutional accountability and public trust as essential pillars for achieving sustainable national development.
The position was highlighted on Thursday June 25, 2026 during the Chapter’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) Public Lecture held at the Multipurpose Hall of the Maryam Babangida Leisure Park, Asaba.
Delivering his welcome address, the Chairman of NIPR Delta State Chapter, Mr. Godfrey C. Osakwe, fnipr, said restoring confidence between public institutions and the citizenry requires transparent leadership, ethical conduct and the strategic application of public relations principles.


The public lecture, with the theme, “Leadership, Accountability and Sustainable Development in Nigeria: The Strategic Intersection of Public Relations for National Repositioning,” featured the Vice Chancellor of Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, Professor Samuel Ovuete Aghalino, as the keynote speaker, while Professor Dode Robert Oghenedoro of the university’s Department of Political Science delivered the guest lecture.
Chairman of the Delta State Bureau of Pension, Sir Edwin Ogidi-Gbegbaje, presided over the event, while the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, was represented by CSP Keme Osuluku.
Speaking at the programme, the Director-General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency and Member of the Governing Council of NIPR, Chief Patrick Ukah, urged public relations practitioners to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in the discharge of their duties. He observed that integrity, credibility and effective stakeholder engagement remain indispensable to institutional success and the promotion of public confidence.
As part of activities marking the AGM, participants earlier attended a professional development session on “Crisis Management: Building Effective Crisis Response Teams” at the Press Centre, Government House, Asaba.
The training was facilitated by Professor Presley Obukoadata, Professor of Brand, Strategic and Meta Communication and Deputy Vice Chancellor of Southern Delta University, Ozoro.
The event drew public relations professionals, academics, government functionaries, media practitioners and other stakeholders, who reaffirmed their commitment to advancing ethical communication, good governance and sustainable national development.
