Former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, OON, has called on teachers in Oshimili South Local Government Area to support the APC and its candidates in the 2027 general elections.
Elumelu made the appeal on Tuesday in Asaba while addressing members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oshimili South chapter, assuring them that the economic difficulties currently confronting Nigerians would give way to greater prosperity as ongoing reforms by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu begin to yield more tangible results.
He acknowledged the hardship currently being experienced by citizens, but urged Nigerians to remain patient and support the Federal Government’s economic reform agenda, which, he said, has started yielding results. He maintained that the reforms were aimed at repositioning the nation’s economy and creating a stronger foundation for sustainable development.
The APC House of Representatives candidate also formally informed the teachers of his ambition to return to the House of Representatives and continue the representation he provided before 2023, expressing concern that the Federal Constituency had experienced inadequate representation since his exit from the Green Chamber.
He recalled several projects and interventions recorded during his previous representation, including initiatives in power, healthcare, education and security, the provision of speedboats in Oko, construction of civic centres, palaces and town halls in various communities, as well as employment and empowerment programmes.
Elumelu, who served as Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, pledged to build on his previous record and do more for the people if given the mandate to return to the National Assembly.
He commended the teachers and other residents of the Federal Constituency for their support for Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, particularly following the Governor’s approval of career progression for primary school teachers to Salary Grade Level 17.
He appealed to them to extend similar support to President Tinubu, himself and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
Also speaking, the State Coordinator of Renewed Hope Ambassadors and Senior Policy Adviser to Governor Oborevwori, Rt. Hon. Chief Funkekeme Solomon, urged the teachers to support the APC, stressing that Delta State could not afford to return to opposition after joining the ruling party at the centre.
Solomon said the state’s alignment with the Federal Government had opened new opportunities and attracted benefits to Delta, noting that several long-standing national policy issues had received attention under the Tinubu administration.
He cited the removal of fuel subsidy, proposed state police, Local Government autonomy and deregulation of the power sector as reforms that had remained largely unresolved for decades until the present administration took steps to implement them.
He urged the teachers to use their influence to sensitise their colleagues, families, neighbours and communities on the importance of supporting President Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori, Elumelu and other APC candidates.
According to him, continued political alignment between Delta State and the Federal Government would strengthen the state’s access to federal opportunities, including appointments, employment and other benefits for its citizens.
In her remarks, the member representing Oshimili South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly and APC candidate for the seat in the 2027 election, Hon. Bridget Anyafulu, commended teachers for their contribution to the education and character development of children.
Anyafulu described teachers as critical stakeholders in the electoral process, particularly because of their numerical strength and influence within their communities.
She said the impact of her representation was visible in various parts of the constituency, stressing that her achievements were not limited to social media publicity but could be seen on the ground.
The lawmaker appealed to the people of Oshimili South to give her another opportunity to serve, promising to consolidate on her achievements if re-elected.
She equally urged the teachers and residents of the constituency to support President Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori, Elumelu and other APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
