Chief Nkem Okwuofu, a renowned politician and elder stateswoman, has felicitated the people of Delta State on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the creation of the state, describing the anniversary as a moment for reflection, gratitude and renewed commitment to the collective destiny of Deltans.
Okwuofu, in a congratulatory message, said the creation of Delta State 35 years ago had provided a platform for the people of the state to forge a common identity, pursue shared aspirations and build a society anchored on peaceful coexistence despite its diverse ethnic, cultural and political backgrounds.
The veteran politician, who has witnessed the evolution of the state across different administrations, commended successive governors and other past leaders for their contributions to the growth and stability of Delta, stressing that the sense of belonging and togetherness enjoyed by Deltans today was the product of years of sacrifice, vision and purposeful leadership.
She particularly applauded the administration of Governor Sheriff Francis Oborevwori for sustaining the spirit of inclusiveness and unity in governance, noting that the Governor’s commitment to development and harmonious relationships across communities had further strengthened the bonds that hold the state together.
According to her, the journey of Delta State over the past 35 years has not been without challenges, but the resilience, cooperation and determination of its people have continued to propel the state forward. She congratulated Governor Oborevwori, members of the State House of Assembly, the State Executive Council and all Deltans for reaching this significant anniversary.
Okwuofu urged the people of Delta State to regard the anniversary not merely as a celebration of the past, but as an opportunity to renew their collective resolve to build a more prosperous and peaceful state, even as she she also called on political leaders, traditional rulers, professionals, youths, women and other stakeholders to place the overall interest of Delta above personal and sectional considerations.
She prayed for continued peace, unity and progress across the state, urging Deltans to remain committed to the ideals of brotherhood and responsible citizenship while expressing confidence that with sustained cooperation between the government and the people, Delta State would continue to attain greater heights and remain a home where peace, unity and progress reign.
