Former Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has appealed to leaders, elders and stakeholders in Ika North East Local Government Area to support his bid to return to the Senate, promising to use his experience to attract more people-oriented federal projects to Delta North.
Okowa made the appeal on Wednesday during a consultation meeting with stakeholders drawn from the various wards in Ika North East, where he outlined his vision for renewed representation and purposeful legislative engagement.
The former governor, who represented Delta North Senatorial District in the Senate from 2011 to 2015, said his return to the National Assembly would provide an opportunity to consolidate on his earlier legislative contributions and leave a lasting impact on the district.
He recalled that during his first tenure in the Senate, he sponsored bills and motions targeted at improving the welfare of Nigerians, particularly in the areas of healthcare and access to medical services.
Among them, he cited the National Health Insurance Commission Act Amendment Bill and bills seeking the establishment of Federal Medical Centres, as well as motions advocating improved healthcare funding and infrastructure in underserved communities.
According to him, his experience as a two-term governor of Delta State has further equipped him with the understanding and capacity required to effectively represent the interests of the nine local government areas that make up Delta North.
Okowa said he was particularly encouraged by the unity and enthusiasm demonstrated by the people of Ika North East during the consultation, describing their response as an indication of a shared commitment to the development of the district.
He urged party leaders and faithful to remain united and ensure that members at the ward and polling-unit levels were carried along as the 2027 elections approach.
“We are united, prepared, and ready for what lies ahead. Unity and shared purpose are the driving forces behind this aspiration,” he said.
Okowa also assured the stakeholders that the issues and suggestions raised during the meeting would be given due consideration and reflected in his legislative agenda, if elected.
“The message from Ika North East is clear: we are united, prepared, and ready for what lies ahead. I remain grateful for the trust and support of our leaders and people as we move forward together,” he added.
The stakeholders, in their separate remarks, commended Okowa for what they described as his contributions to the development of Delta State during his tenure as governor.
They specifically highlighted his Stronger Delta development agenda, extensive road infrastructure projects, establishment of three new universities and investments in the health sector through the Delta State Contributory Health Commission.
The stakeholders expressed confidence that his experience in both the executive and legislative arms of government would enhance his capacity to attract further development projects and effectively represent Delta North at the National Assembly.
