The Delta State Police Command has intensified its investigation into the death of Mr Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, with the arrest of four additional suspects.
The development was contained in a press statement issued on Monday, September 28, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, on behalf of the Command.
According to the statement, the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, is among the latest suspects taken into police custody, alongside three other persons.
The Command said the latest arrests have increased to five the number of persons currently in police custody in connection with the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death.
The Police also disclosed that a manhunt had been launched for two key suspects whose presence, according to the Command, is required to advance the investigation.
They were identified in the statement as Mrs Clemetine Ufuoma, Director of Basic and Secondary Education, and Mr Clement Apia, driver to the Commissioner for Secondary Education.
The Command urged the two suspects, wherever they might be, to make themselves available to the Police without further delay.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, psc, mnips, assured the public that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly, impartially and professionally.
He also assured the family of the deceased and members of the public that due process would be followed and that anyone found culpable would be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
The Command expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased, while reaffirming its commitment to establishing the circumstances surrounding the death.
The investigation follows the death of Adeda, whose death in his workplace had earlier prompted concerns and official action by the Delta State Government.
