Okowa Reaffirms Support for Tinubu’s Re-election, Calls for South-South Backing

Former Delta State Governor and APC Senatorial Candidate for Delta North, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, has reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, expressing confidence in the administration’s economic reforms and development agenda.

Okowa made the declaration on Saturday at the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) South-South campaign for President Tinubu’s re-election in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he called on the people of the region to unite behind the President and the ruling party.

Reflecting on his political journey ahead of the 2023 general election, when he served as the vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Okowa said his subsequent decision to join the APC was informed by his assessment of President Tinubu’s policies and the direction of the country under the present administration.

“You all know that in 2023 I was in another ticket, but I have seen the light and I have seen what Mr President is doing for Nigeria. It is the right thing to be done and I have, along with my governor, long ago crossed to the APC to join hands with Mr President, because he is truly building a new Nigeria,” he said.

In a subsequent post on his Facebook page, the former governor highlighted what he described as the gains of the Tinubu administration, particularly increased financial allocations to state and local governments, improved capacity of governments to meet salary and pension obligations, and expanded access to higher education through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

He maintained that transforming the Nigerian economy requires difficult but necessary decisions, expressing satisfaction with the policy direction of the Tinubu administration and its efforts to reposition the country for sustainable growth.

Okowa also stressed the importance of ensuring that the South-South region remained an integral part of the President’s re-election movement, noting that the region stood to benefit from the administration’s reform and infrastructure development initiatives.

He urged APC leaders, party faithful, supporters and other eligible voters across the South-South to mobilise support for President Tinubu and all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.

The former governor’s renewed commitment to the APC campaign comes as he seeks to represent Delta North Senatorial District in the Senate, with his political experience and record of public service forming part of his credentials ahead of the 2027 elections.
