The Legislative Arm of Aniocha North Local Government, has passed the 2026 Appropriation Bill totalling ₦12,070,556,473.73, setting the stage for the council’s fiscal operations for the year.
The budget was passed on Wednesday during plenary held at the Legislative Chamber in Issele-Uku, with proceedings presided over by the Leader of the House, Hon. Uzor Raphael.
The passage followed the third reading of the bill by the Clerk of the House, Mrs Ogobah Ogbudo Ufuoma, after a motion moved by the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon.Okonkwo Nnamdi, Councillor Ward 9, Idumuje-Unor, seconded by Hon. Awele Uwafili, Councillor Ward 14, Ezi.
The budget was recently presented to the Legislative Arm by the Executive Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Emmanuel Bazim Chinye.
A breakdown of the approved estimate shows a capital expenditure of ₦6,462,599,107.07 and a recurrent expenditure of ₦5,607,957,366.66.
Speaking after the passage, Hon. Raphael commended his colleagues for their dedication and cooperation in ensuring the timely consideration and approval of the budget.
He noted that the early passage would help in facilitating the continued implementation of the “MORE GAINS WITH RENEWED HOPE” agenda of the present administration in the Local Government.
In a related development, the Legislative Arm suspended three councillors indefinitely over allegations of gross misconduct and breach of oath of secrecy through the unauthorized disclosure of classified information.
Those suspended are the Majority Leader; Hon Nkabu Blessing Chinyere, the Deputy Chief Whip; Hon. Nwakwushue Peter Kanayo, and Hon. Odu Chukwuka Joel, Councillor ward 11, Ukwu-Nzu.
The suspension followed a motion moved by the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Nnamdi Okonkwo and seconded by Hon.Okolie Ilebomi Francis, which was unanimously sustained by the House.
The House thereafter adjourned sine-die.
