The Aniocha North Local Government Peace and Security Committee has announced a fresh set of security measures aimed at ensuring the safety of residents and travelers during the Christmas and New Year festivities across the Local Government Area.
The decisions were reached at the Committee’s security review meeting held on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at the Local Government Council Secretariat in Issele-Uku. The meeting was attended by the Executive Chairman of the Council, heads of security agencies in the area, relevant local government functionaries, and other statutory members of the committee.

After exhaustive deliberations on security reports and intelligence briefings, the Committee resolved to step up vigilance across the Local Government Area in response to emerging security threats.
As part of the resolutions, the sale and use of fireworks, popularly known as “knock out,” remain banned in the Local Government Area in line with existing police directives. The Committee directed that strict enforcement of the ban by security agencies will commence on Monday, December 15, 2025.
In a move to curb the rising cases of accidents linked to reckless riding, the Committee further resolved that any commercial motorcycle operator (Okada rider) caught engaging in reckless driving will be fined N20,000 for a first offence, while a second offence will attract confiscation of the motorcycle.
To further tighten security and reduce crimes perpetrated under the cover of darkness, the Committee also approved a ban on the use of motorcycles at night. Under the new directive, movement by motorcycles is prohibited from 8:00 p.m. daily, effective from Monday, December 15, 2025.
The Committee emphasized that the measures are purely aimed at improving the security situation in the Local Government Area and ensuring a peaceful festive season. All residents and operators are expected to comply strictly, as security agencies in the area have been placed on full alert for enforcement.
The communique was signed by the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Kennedy Okoh, on behalf of the Executive Chairman.
