APC Moves to Adopt Tinubu for 2027 as Governors Endorse Zoning Formula Ahead of Convention

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have reaffirmed the party’s readiness for its National Convention scheduled to hold on Friday and Saturday, with key stakeholders openly backing the adoption of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

Speaking in Abuja during a meeting of the Environment and Sanitation Sub-committee ahead of the convention, former Cross River State Governor Ben Ayade said the party was repositioning to deliver a people-oriented agenda.

“We are particularly happy with the management of the FCT for the cleanliness that we have seen across our patrol route,” Ayade said. “Indeed, it is very clear that our president has done so well. And so we are here to celebrate the convention and, of course, an adoption of President Bola Tinubu.”

Chairman of the Convention Central Coordination Committee and former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari declared the party fully prepared for both the convention and the 2027 elections.

“We are ready, you can see that we are ready. And we are waiting for 2027, and our convention. We are ready for it, come Saturday,” Masari stated.

Also speaking, former Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara described the ongoing activities as a preview of what the convention aims to achieve, while urging Nigerians to be patient with ongoing reforms.

“As far as I’m concerned, this convention has offered us the opportunity not only to showcase what the party can do, but to render an account to the teeming populace,” Dogara said. “The reforms being embarked upon will take time… As benefits of these reforms begin to crystallise, Nigerians will see clearly why we should return him back.”

Meanwhile, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, who chairs the Aspirants’ Screening Sub-committee, assured party members of fairness and transparency in the screening process.

“We are going to be transparent. We are going to be fair. We are going to be just to all of them,” Oyebanji said. “We are going to do everything in accordance with the constitution of the party and Electoral Act. So they don’t have anything to fear.”

Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, co-chairman of the committee, pledged commitment to the assignment, stating, “This is a selfless service to our party and nation. This is not about APC but for the country.”

Secretary of the committee, Uche Ekwunife, expressed confidence in the party’s electoral chances.

“Let Nigerians know that APC is prepared. We are not just prepared for the convention, we are prepared for the 2027 elections,” she said. “We are confident that in 2027, APC is going to win landslide… President Tinubu is coming back.”

In a related development, the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) has resolved to retain the party’s existing zoning formula for the election of national officers.

Chairman of the forum and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma disclosed the decision after a late-night meeting.

“Since the president remains in position, there is no need to re-zone the party offices,” Uzodimma said.

In a statement, the PGF said it deliberated on key national issues and reaffirmed its commitment to the administration’s policies.

“The forum noted that moments of reform are often difficult because they ask a nation to move beyond old comforts into a more durable future,” the statement read. “Responsible leadership must be judged not only by its response to present pressures, but also by its courage to lay the foundations of long-term stability.”

As preparations intensify, the APC leadership maintains that the convention will not only consolidate party unity but also position it strongly for the 2027 general election.
