Fresh Turmoil in Rivers as Amaewhule Accuses Governor Fubara of Falsehoods

Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of “lying” about his inability to meet with legislators, sparking fears of another political showdown in the oil‑rich region.

Amaewhule told reporters that Fubara’s claim of not having met with assembly members is false. “It is important I make this clarification—first and foremost, the governor lied when he said he hasn’t been able to meet with members of the Rivers State House of Assembly,” he said.

The Speaker pointed out that shortly after the state of emergency was lifted, the Federal Capital Territory Minister called a meeting with the governor and senior assembly officials, a gathering Amaewhule confirmed he attended.

“Lawmakers have met with the governor multiple times,” Amaewhule insisted, labeling Fubara’s public statements as “insincere” and evidence of “poor leadership.”

He alleged that the governor’s remarks were a deliberate attempt to suggest a breakdown in communication, a move Amaewhule warned could reignite political turmoil in Rivers State.

“The people of Rivers should disregard the governor’s comments and remain vigilant,” Amaewhule urged, as tensions continue to simmer.

Governor Fubara has publicly denied any rift with lawmakers, stating that he has made “every effort” to arrange meetings and that the responsibility for convening such gatherings rests with senior party leaders, including FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
