Fubara Debunks Rift Claims, Says APC Defection Aimed at Peace, Progress

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has refuted claims of a rift between him and lawmakers from the state, describing such reports as baseless and misleading.

Speaking on Wednesday during the commissioning of the extended and dualised 28.4-kilometre Ahoada–Omoku Road, Governor Fubara stressed that contrary to rumours, he has not avoided any meeting with federal or state legislators. He explained that arrangements had already been put in place for an engagement with them, convened by his predecessor and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, elder statesman Ferdinand Alabraba, and other key leaders.

He maintained that suggestions that he rejected overtures from lawmakers or declined planned meetings “are simply not true.”

Addressing the crowd just a day after announcing his defection from the PDP to the APC, Governor Fubara urged Rivers people to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He emphasised that his move to the ruling party was motivated by a desire to secure peace, stabilise the state, and sustain meaningful development — not to pursue personal political ambition.

He called on his supporters to remain united, avoid divisive politics, and stand firmly with both President Tinubu and the state government.

Reaffirming his commitment to service, Governor Fubara noted that the Ahoada–Omoku Road project was a campaign promise he made to the area, alongside then-Governor Wike. He said its completion would significantly improve movement, boost commercial activities, and uplift the socio-economic fortunes of the communities along the corridor.

The governor also assured residents that more development projects have been lined up to accelerate growth across the state.

Governor Fubara formally left the PDP on Tuesday, joining the APC two years after being elected on the PDP platform in 2023.
