Hope In Rivers As President Tinubu Meets With Wike, Fubara, Rivers Lawmakers

President Bola Tinubu met with Governor Siminalayi Fubara, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Martins Amaewhule, and members of the Assembly on Thursday.

The meeting marked a significant breakthrough in efforts to resolve the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State, which led to the declaration of a state of emergency on March 18.

The political crisis in Rivers State began two years ago, with a power struggle between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, over control of the state’s political structure.

The crisis escalated, leading to the declaration of a state of emergency, suspension of Governor Fubara and his deputy, and the Rivers State House of Assembly members. Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ibas (rtd) was appointed as the sole administrator for the state.

The meeting between President Tinubu, Governor Fubara, Minister Wike, and the Lawmakers appears to have yielded positive results, with photos and videos showing the parties in a friendly and jovial mood, shaking hands, smiling, and taking photos together.

Although the presidency and the parties involved have not made any official comments on the meeting, there are indications that the state of emergency might be nearing its end.

The reconciliation efforts are expected to bring relief to the people of Rivers State, who have been affected by the prolonged political crisis. The meeting also marks a significant step towards resolving the differences between Governor Fubara and Minister Wike, who have been at loggerheads for months.

The development has raised hopes for a more peaceful and stable Rivers State, with the potential for the state of emergency to be lifted soon.
