As Nigerians join the world to celebrate International Day of Peace, the immediate past Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu OON, has urged Nigerians and the people of Delta State to embrace peace in its entirety, emphasizing the crucial role of peace in driving meaningful development.
In a statement, on Sunday September 21, 2025, Elumelu highlighted the critical elements of peace in any environment, maintaining that understanding and tolerance, justice and equality, empathy and compassion, as well as forgiveness and reconciliation, remain the key ingredients of peace and unity.
Elumelu commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his tireless efforts to promote peace and unity across the country, notably through his administration’s steps and commitment in addressing root causes of insecurity and social unrest, such as poverty, unemployment and promoting inclusive governance.
He also praised Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, for his exceptional commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state through responsible leadership and proactive governance, noting that the Governor has continued to demonstrate elements of peace in all his policies and actions.
“Peace is the bedrock of progress and development; meaningful development in any area is impossible without peace.
“As we join the world over to celebrate the International Day of Peace, let us reflect on the importance of living in harmony with one another and supporting initiatives that promote peace and understanding.
“Let us embrace peace and work together towards a brighter future for all,” Elumelu said.
The former Minority Leader, urged Nigerians and Deltans to continue supporting efforts geared towards peace and security, noting that it is only through peaceful coexistence that the country and the State can achieve its full potential.
He emphasized that peace is essential for attracting investments, promoting economic growth, and improving the overall quality of life for citizens.
