President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated renowned economist, banker, and philanthropist, Tony Onyemaechi Elumelu, on the occasion of his birthday celebrated on March 22, 2026.
In a press statement on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Elumelu as an African business icon and a leading advocate of Nigerian and African enterprise.
President Tinubu commended the Chairman of Heirs Holdings for his resilience, commitment to excellence, and unwavering belief in Africapitalism, a philosophy that promotes long-term investments in key sectors of the African economy to drive prosperity.
The President also acknowledged Elumelu’s leadership roles across major corporate institutions, including United Bank for Africa and Transnational Corporation of Nigeria, noting his contributions to economic growth and development across the continent.
Highlighting Elumelu’s passion for youth empowerment, President Tinubu particularly lauded the efforts of the Tony Elumelu Foundation. According to the statement, the Foundation’s entrepreneurship programme has trained over 2.5 million young Africans across 54 countries and provided more than 24,000 entrepreneurs with non-refundable seed capital of $5,000 each to support their business ventures.
As Elumelu marks his birthday, President Tinubu joined family members, friends, and associates in wishing him good health, renewed strength, and continued success in his endeavours.
