President Bola Tinubu has advised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to disregard critics and focus on transforming the nation’s capital.
Tinubu made this call during the inauguration of the refurbished International Conference Centre, Abuja, which was renamed in his honor as the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre.
The President praised Wike’s efforts in reflecting the administration’s vision for a modern and prosperous Nigeria.
“Don’t pay attention to busybodies and the bystanders, and whatever they say. Continue with your good work. You are a transformational leader. You have the vision, foresight, and determination to succeed,” Tinubu said.
Tinubu emphasized the importance of modern infrastructure in driving economic prosperity, highlighting his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda to revamp key sectors such as transportation, healthcare, education, energy, and urban development.
The President also announced that the conference centre would not be available for free usage for social or corporate events, stating that users would be required to pay fees.
The event was attended by notable figures, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Ministers Wale Edun and Lateef Fagbemi.
Wike, a PDP chieftain, has been working with the APC-led federal government since August 2023, when he was appointed as FCT Minister.
His appointment, along with that of Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, highlights the administration’s efforts to build a broad-based Government.
