Non-indigenous residents of Delta State living across the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency have expressed support for the candidacy of the former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the constituency in the 2027 election, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, OON.
The group conveyed its position when its leaders paid a solidarity visit to Elumelu at his campaign office in Asaba, where they highlighted what they described as the impact of his previous representation and called for continued inclusion of non-indigenes in development and empowerment initiatives.
Speaking on behalf of the community, its Chairman in Delta State, Prof. Pius Ike, said the visit was to identify with Elumelu and acknowledge what he described as his record of representation which, according to him, benefited both Indigenes and non-indigenes.
Ike said the community would also support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other APC candidates, adding that non-indigenous residents remained important stakeholders in the socio-economic development of the state and constituency.
Also speaking, the Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Special Duties and Chairman of the Oshimili South LGA Non-Indigenous Community, Mr. Chinedu Obodo, commended Elumelu’s representation in the National Assembly, particularly his interventions in areas he said brought development closer to the people.
Obodo said the non-indigenous community would work for Elumelu’s return to the House of Representatives, expressing the hope that his return would provide an opportunity for further interventions across the constituency.
The Executive Assistant to the State Governor on Non-Indigenes Affairs, Mr. Emeka Ebiliekwe, Esq., also highlighted areas in which he said Elumelu made contributions during his previous tenure, including healthcare, education, community development, support for security agencies and empowerment programmes.
Ebiliekwe assured Elumelu of the support of the non-indigenous community, while urging him to sustain attention to their needs if elected in 2027.
He noted that non-indigenes had contributed significantly to the economic and social life of Aniocha/Oshimili and should therefore continue to be included in development programmes and opportunities for empowerment.
Responding, Elumelu thanked the delegation for the visit and for the confidence expressed in his candidacy.
He appealed to the group to translate its support into votes at the 2027 election, saying he was humbled by the solidarity and would not take the confidence reposed in him for granted.
Elumelu recalled some of the interventions associated with his previous tenure in the House of Representatives, including initiatives in healthcare, community development, electricity and street lighting, support for security agencies, youth and women empowerment, and educational assistance.
He said his experience in the National Assembly had strengthened his understanding of the needs of the constituency, adding that, if given another mandate in 2027, he would build on his previous interventions and pursue further opportunities for development across Aniocha/Oshimili.
