St. Pius Xth Grammar School, Onicha-Ugbo, a renowned secondary school in Delta State with a distinguished history of academic excellence and character formation, is set to mark its 65th anniversary with a series of commemorative activities.
The celebration, according to a press statement on Wednesday December 17, 2025, jointly signed by the National President of the St. Pius Xth Grammar School Old Boys Association, Chief Barr. Edmund Zealiwe Ojeogwu, and the Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, Mr. Patrick Ejidoh, is designed to honour the school’s illustrious past, celebrate its present achievements and inspire a greater future.
Established in 1960, St. Pius Xth Grammar School has over the decades produced outstanding professionals and responsible citizens who have continued to make significant contributions to national development. Among its distinguished alumni are business mogul Tony Elumelu of Heirs Holdings; former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu; former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Dele Joseph Ezeoba; Major Generals Lawrence Fejokwu and Raymond Ochei; as well as former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt.Hon. Ndudi Godwin Elumelu, amongst others.
The statement noted that for 65 years, the institution has remained committed to academic excellence, discipline, moral values and the holistic development of its students. The anniversary celebration will therefore spotlight the pioneering roles and enduring contributions of past and present principals, teachers and old boys whose vision, dedication and sacrifices laid the foundation for the school’s growth and sustained relevance.
A major highlight of the anniversary is the role of the Old Boys’ Association, which will unveil and commission several legacy projects aimed at supporting the school’s infrastructural and academic development. These initiatives, the statement said, underscore the strong bond between the school and its alumni.
The two-day celebration will commence on Friday, December 19, with a visit to the school for project assessment, followed by a courtesy visit to the traditional ruler of Onicha-Ugbo. Activities on Saturday, December 20, will include a thanksgiving Mass at the school, the unveiling of a statue of the pioneer principal who led the institution from 1960 to 1970, and the presentation of a commemorative book chronicling the school’s history from inception to date.
Other events lined up for the anniversary include an anniversary lecture and career talks, cultural displays and students’ talent showcases, as well as an anniversary lunch and awards ceremony.
As the school marks this historic milestone, the staff, students and alumni are expected to reaffirm their collective commitment to upholding the institution’s proud legacy while embracing innovation and excellence for the benefit of future generations.
