The city of Asaba is set to host a landmark cultural event as the Afrobeat Cultural Festival takes centre stage on Saturday, August 1, 2026, with organisers unveiling a programme designed to harness the influence of Afrobeat music in promoting youth development, national unity and the fight against drug abuse.
The festival, an initiative of Gateway to Better Life Foundation Inc., in collaboration with DASH Foundation Inc., USA, and the Davido International Supporters Group (DIS-G), will be held at St. Patrick’s College, Nnebisi Road, Asaba, beginning at 12 noon.
According to a press release jointly signed by the Convener, Ambassador (Rev.) Chukwudi Eke, and the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Comrade Sam Ijeh, the maiden edition of the festival is themed “Celebrating the Impact of Davido on African Music, Youth Culture and National Unity.”
The organisers explained that the festival is conceived as a unique platform to leverage the popularity of Afrobeat music and cultural expression to address pressing social challenges, particularly drug abuse and addiction among young people, while encouraging positive values and community development.
They noted that beyond entertainment, the event would serve as an advocacy platform to create awareness on the dangers of substance abuse, support intervention efforts for victims of drug addiction and promote a healthier and safer society.
The fan-driven cultural celebration, inspired by the enduring influence of Nigerian music icon Davido, will feature a wide range of activities, including a Davido Legacy Recognition Session, colourful cultural parade, talent discovery showcase, youth empowerment initiatives, anti-drug awareness campaign, live musical performances, community impact recognition awards and a free medical outreach for participants.
A major highlight of the festival will be the unveiling of the Davido Legacy Book, a publication documenting the award-winning artiste’s contributions to African music, youth empowerment, social impact and the global entertainment industry.
The organisers disclosed that participants are expected from all 25 Local Government Areas of Delta State, as well as other parts of Nigeria, expressing optimism that the festival would become an annual platform for celebrating culture, inspiring young people and advancing social causes through the unifying power of music.
They called on youths, cultural enthusiasts, music lovers, community leaders and the general public to be part of the historic event, describing it as an opportunity to celebrate African heritage while championing initiatives that foster national unity, healthy living and sustainable community development.
