Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and his wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, were among dignitaries that attended the Service of Songs of former Deputy Governor, Sir Benjamin Elue, held at Obior on Thursday.

The solemn gathering drew prominent personalities, including the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme; former Governor, Chief James Ibori; and wife of a former governor, Dame Edith Okowa, among others, who came to honour the late statesman.

Delivering the exhortation, Reverend Canon Iloba of All Saints Anglican Church, Obior, charged the congregation to reflect deeply on life, death, and eternity.

Drawing from 2 Corinthians 5:1, he noted that the human body was only a temporary dwelling, stressing that death was not the end but a transition into eternal life.

He recalled the biblical account of creation in Genesis 2:7, explaining that man was formed from dust and given life by God’s breath, but became separated from God through sin.

The Cleric further reminded worshippers of the inevitability of death, adding that while the body returns to the earth as dust, the spirit returns to God, in line with Ecclesiastes 12:7.

While admonishing against the excessive pursuit of material wealth and compromise, Revered Canon Iloba described worldly possessions as transient and ultimately meaningless, declaring that all was vanity upon vanity.

Urging sober reflection, the Anglican cleric called on attendees to examine their lives and consider their standing with God, noting that the true essence of life lies not in its duration but in living in Christ.

He cautioned that living a long life without Christ holds no eternal value and concluded with a poignant charge, asking whether, at the point when the soul separates from the body, the human spirit would be able to stand before God.

Others who attended the services of songs include the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, immediate past Minority leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ndidi Elumelu, a former gubernatorial candidates, Mr. David Edevbie, former House of Representatives member, Hon. Joan Onyemaechi, Dame Pat Okwuofo, among other top Government functionaries
