Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, has urged members of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the State to remain disciplined, embrace entrepreneurship through skills acquisition, and make meaningful contributions to their host communities throughout their service year.

The Governor gave the charge while declaring closed the three-week Orientation Course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Issele-Uku, in Aniocha North Local Government Area on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
He was represented at the ceremony by the Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of the NYSC State Governing Board, Dr. Kingsley Emu.

Dr. Emu, who took the salute and inspected the Guard of Honour mounted by the NYSC Camp Detachment, congratulated the Corps Members for successfully completing the orientation exercise, commending them for their discipline, resilience, and active participation in all camp activities designed to prepare them physically, socially, morally, and economically for national service.
He reminded the Corps Members that their deployment to Delta State was purposeful, stressing that the orientation course had equipped them for the realities of a larger society where discipline, responsibility, and adaptability would remain essential virtues.
The Governor assured them that the Delta State Government would continue to provide a safe and secure environment throughout their one-year national service, noting that as valuable assets of both the Federal and Delta State Governments, their welfare and protection would remain a priority.
He therefore admonished them to sustain the discipline they had demonstrated on camp and remain worthy ambassadors of the NYSC Scheme wherever they were posted across the State.
Governor Oborevwori placed particular emphasis on the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, describing university degrees as foundations for greater responsibilities rather than guarantees of economic success.
He encouraged the Corps Members not to abandon the vocational skills they had begun acquiring during the orientation course but to continue their training by identifying and enrolling in recognised skills acquisition centres across the 25 Local Government Areas of Delta State.
According to him, practical skills have become indispensable in today’s economy, urging the young graduates to develop competencies that would serve as dependable alternative sources of livelihood beyond paid employment.
“Do not leave this service year without acquiring a skill. Let that skill become your second address. Your service year should not be treated as a period for leisure but as an opportunity to prepare yourselves for greater responsibilities ahead,” he advised.

Earlier in his address, the NYSC State Coordinator in Delta State, Mr. John Vandit Kwaghe, expressed satisfaction over the successful conclusion of the orientation exercise, stating that the three-week programme had achieved its primary objective of adequately preparing Corps Members for national service.
He commended the Corps Members for their discipline, maturity, patriotism, and exemplary conduct throughout the exercise, noting that their positive disposition gave the Scheme confidence that they would serve diligently and uphold the ideals of the NYSC.
Mr. Kwaghe observed that the various drills, sporting events, lectures, social activities, and other camp engagements had strengthened teamwork, unity, friendship, physical fitness, and healthy competition among the participants.
He equally lauded their enthusiastic participation in the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, urging them to continue with post-camp training in order to become self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to national economic growth through entrepreneurship.
The State Coordinator also charged the Corps Members to obey the laws of their host communities, respect local customs and traditions, discharge their responsibilities with integrity and humility, and take Community Development Service seriously by initiating projects capable of improving the lives of the people.
Mr. Kwaghe expressed profound appreciation to Governor Oborevwori for his unwavering support for the NYSC Scheme and for providing an enabling environment for its operations in Delta State, describing the Governor’s commitment to improving the Orientation Camp as a demonstration of his administration’s dedication to youth development.
He also acknowledged the invaluable contributions of camp officials, traditional rulers, community leaders, corporate partners, and other stakeholders whose cooperation ensured the successful conduct of the orientation course.
The ceremony featured the official closing parade, inspection of the Guard of Honour, presentation of awards to outstanding Corps Members and camp officials, as well as the formal deployment of the Corps Members to their respective Places of Primary Assignment across Delta State.
Present at the event were the Executive Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government; Hon. Emmanuel Bazim Chinye, represented by the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Kennedy Okoh, the traditional ruler of Issele-Uku; His Royal Majesty, Obi Agbogidi Nduka, MNSE, JP, Obi of Issele-Uku, Senior Government officials, security agencies, members of the NYSC Governing Board, and other distinguished guests.
