The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Delta State Wing, has commended the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori for approving enhanced career progression for graduate teachers in public primary schools across the state, describing the decision as a landmark achievement that underscores his administration’s commitment to educational development and the welfare of teachers.
The union said the approval effectively addresses a long-standing career limitation that had hindered the professional advancement of university graduate teachers within the public primary school system, noting that the policy would significantly boost morale, improve job satisfaction and enhance productivity among teachers.
In a letter jointly signed by the State Chairman of the union, Comrade Poubeni Dickson, and the Assistant Secretary-General, Comrade Dan Basime, the NUT expressed profound appreciation to the governor for what it described as a bold and progressive decision that recognizes merit, rewards professionalism and strengthens the foundation of basic education in Delta State.
According to the union, the enhanced career progression policy represents a major milestone for the teaching profession, as it not only elevates the status of graduate teachers but also provides greater opportunities for career advancement, professional fulfilment and improved service delivery in public primary schools.
The union noted that a motivated and professionally fulfilled teaching workforce remains critical to raising educational standards and achieving better learning outcomes for pupils, stressing that Governor Oborevwori’s approval further demonstrates his commitment to investing in human capital development through quality education.
The NUT further assured the governor that teachers across the state would reciprocate the gesture with renewed dedication, increased productivity and sustained professionalism in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Reaffirming its support for the Governor’s M.O.R.E. Agenda With Renewed Hope, the union expressed confidence that the administration would continue to implement people-oriented policies that promote educational development, enhance the welfare of teachers and other public servants, and sustain the growth and transformation of the education sector.
