The Delta State All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council has condemned the violence that erupted during a political procession organised by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) along Nnebisi Road, Asaba, on Saturday, November 7, 2026, calling for a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident.
The Council expressed sadness over reports of loss of life, injuries and destruction of property arising from the incident, while extending its condolences to the family of the deceased and sympathies to those injured and other persons affected.
In a statement issued by the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Delta State APC Campaign Council, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, the Council maintained that political ambitions and disagreements should never be allowed to result in violence, intimidation or the loss of innocent lives.
“No political ambition or disagreement is worth the life of any citizen, and no political contest should ever degenerate into violence,” Aniagwu stated.
The APC Campaign Council called on the Delta State Police Command to conduct a comprehensive, transparent and impartial investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, identify all those involved and ensure that anyone found culpable, including sponsors and instigators, is brought to justice.
It stressed that political affiliation or influence should not serve as a shield against accountability, insisting that all individuals found to have participated in or sponsored criminal conduct must face the consequences of their actions.
Aniagwu further recalled that the APC Campaign Council had, from the inauguration of its campaign structure, made a firm commitment to peaceful, responsible and issue-based political engagement.
He said the Council remained resolute in pursuing a campaign anchored on presenting its achievements, programmes, vision and policy alternatives to the people of Delta State rather than engaging in confrontation or activities capable of threatening public peace.
According to him, the Council has no intention of departing from that commitment, stressing that political competition should be driven by ideas, policies and constructive engagement rather than intimidation and violence.
The statement reaffirmed the Delta APC Campaign Council’s commitment to peaceful political participation and the protection of the peace, security and collective interests of all Deltans.
Aniagwu urged political actors and their supporters to conduct their activities responsibly, noting that the preservation of lives and property must remain paramount as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
