The Delta State Government has suspended the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Hon. Izeze Rume Yakubu Reuben, indefinitely, with immediate effect.
The suspension was announced in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, on Monday.
According to the statement, the suspension is to enable security agencies to conduct an impartial investigation into allegations linking the Commissioner to the alleged assault of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Protocol, Mr. Simon Mudi, popularly known as “Temple”, at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun.
The State Government said the decision was taken to allow the investigation to proceed without interference and to ensure that all parties involved are accorded due process.
It reiterated its commitment to maintaining public safety, law and order, as well as protecting the sanctity of human life.
The government stressed that these principles would be upheld at all times, including in cases involving officials or institutions of the state.
The statement further assured members of the public that the relevant security agencies would be allowed to carry out their duties independently and professionally.
