Aniocha North Local Government Council Evacuates illegal Refuse Dump Sites In Issele-Uku

Aniocha North Local Government, Delta State has commenced massive evacuation of illegal refuse dump sites in Issele-Uku metropolis with a call on residents to stop indiscriminate dumping of their refuse.

This is sequel to the directives of the Executive Chairman of the Local Government, Hon Kevin Okwechime to the effect that the administrative headquarters of the area should be kept clean especially in this yuletide season.

Evacuation activities began on Wednesday December 15, 2022 with council pal-loader and truck seen palling and evacuating refuse indiscriminately dumped at various locations within Issele-Uku to the designated dump sites.

At the dump site located along Onich-Ugbo road, the council Chairman who was on ground to monitor the evacuation ensured that the dump was cleared to his satisfaction.

In an interview, Hon Okwechime condemned the habit of dumping refuse arbitrarily and said the Local Government will no longer tolerate residents dumping refuse in a manner to jeopardize the health and well-being of the people, saying measures have been put in place to discourage illegal dumping of refuse.

Okwechime revealed that the Local Government has entered into partnership with private individuals and organizations for the management of refuse in the council area, noting that residents are expected to register with these private organizations who he stated helps in the collection and disposal of refuse from the various households within the Issele-Uku metropolis.

The council boss said Issele-Uku as an urban community that generates massive refuse on a daily basis, as a result of increased population, needed the support and cooperation of residents for effective refuse collection and disposal.

He therefore appealed to residents to go to the council environmental health department and register with the Private Partners at an affordable cost, even as he assured that evacuation work will continue until all illegal refuse dump sites within the local Government area headquarters are evacuated.
