Aniocha North Local Government Sets Machinery In Motion To Further Strengthen Issele-Uku As An Urban Centre …As Council Chairman Inaugurates Three Committees

Executive Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government, Delta State, Hon. Kevin Okwechime, in his resolve to further give Issele-Uku, the administrative headquarters of the Local Government a face lift as an Urban Centre, has inaugurated three Enforcement Sub-Committees.

Hon. Okwechime inaugurated the Chairmen and members of the Committees on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 in a brief, but impressive ceremony at the EXCO Chamber of the Local Government.

The Constitution and inauguration of the Sub-Committees was sequel to the resolutions of an earlier constituted steering Committee co-headed by the Council Chairman, Hon Kevin Okwechime and the Majority Leader of the State House of Assembly and Member representing Aniocha North State Constituency in the House, Hon. (Engr.) Emeka Emmanuel Nwaobi.

The Sub-Committees include; Environmental Sub-Committee, Town Planning Sub-Committee and Building Materials Control Sub-Committee.

Supervisor for Environmental Health in the Local Government, Hon. Patrick Onochie is the Chairman of the Environmental Sub-Committee.

Other members of the Environmental Sub-Committee include; Head of Environmental Health Department of the Council, Mr. Raphael Onwuegbuzie, Hon. Ozulonye Mekwunye, Hon. Michael Chukwukwei, Dcn. Ifeanyi Mordi, Mr. Offor Nwani, Mr Offor Mokwunye, Mr Ugo Otakpor, Mr. Ikechukwu Ashibuogwu and Mr. Michael Jombo, an  Assistant Director of Finance in the Local Government who will function as the Secretary.

The Town Planning Sub-Committee has a Supervisor for Works and Housing in the Local Government, Engr. Ozah Emeka Augustine as Chairman with the Council’s Town Planning Officer, Mr Emmanuel Uwagwuna, Mr Moses Onwochei, Mr Ade Chinye, Mr Onyema Ashibuogwu, Mr Adiama Mordi, Mr Chuks Obed Okonkwor, Mr Oge Nwosu and Mr Agiliga Chizeh as Members while Mr. Martin Anonyei will serve as the Secretary.

The Building Materials Control Sub-Committee has the Special Adviser to the Executive Chairman, Mr. Kaikenechukwu Okolie as the Chairman while

Mr. Emmanuel Emmelue; the Officer in charge of Revenue in the Council, Pastor Ebegbune Louis Obiajulu, Mr Wilson Anene, and Mr. Emeka Ashiedu as Members while Mr. Augustine Onwaeze , Director of Administration will function as the Secretary of the Sub-Committee.

Inaugurating the Committees, the Executive Chairman of the Local Government, Hon.Kevin Okwechime spelt out the responsibilities of the various Sub-Committees.

He said the Environmental Sub-Committee in exercise of its responsibilities is to identify best environmental practices and enforce same in liaison with the various Security Agencies in the Area.

He maintained that the Environmental Sub-Committee is to put measures in place towards sanitizing refuse dumping in unauthorized places in Issele-Uku.

Hon Okwechime further said that the Town Planning Sub-Committee has among other responsibilities the duty to control the unwholesome practices and enforce lay down rules with a view to ensuring that buildings and other structures are not erected in wrong places to the detriment of public interest, even as he charged the Sub-Committee on Building Materials Control to facilitate the  relocation of traders of building materials to a designated site within one month from the date of their inauguration.

The council boss also said the Building Materials Control Sub-Committee has the onerous responsibility to checkmate blockade of roads, gutter and other activities of traders that are detrimental to public interest.

Okwechime revealed that the Local Government and the Issele-Uku Community has finally agreed in principle on the urgent need to rehabilitate and expand the Issele-Uku Main Market (Afor Market) for ultimate stimulation of the economy of the area while accommodating all shade of interest in the market.

He assured that machinery has also been put in motion for a memorandum of understanding to be jointly drawn by the Council and the Issele-Uku community as regards the rehabilitation and expansion of the Issele-Uku Main Market

At the event included high powered representatives of the Issele-Uku Community led by the President General (PG) Issele-Uku Development Union, Mr Uge Offordile who appreciated the Council Chairman on behalf of the Committees and the Issele-Uku community for the avowed commitment of the Local Government to further strengthen Issele-Uku to take its pride of place in the comity of Urban Centres in Delta State.
