Immediate past Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Delta North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Okowa secured a sweeping victory over the incumbent senator Ned Nwoko in the party’s direct primary election conducted on Monday across the various wards in the nine local government areas that make up the Delta North Senatorial District.
The exercise was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, while security agencies provided security cover throughout the conduct of the primaries in the various wards across the district.
At the end of the exercise, Okowa polled a total of 113,309 votes to defeat Nwoko, who garnered 2,612 votes.
Chairman of the Delta State National Assembly Primary Election Committee, Eugene Odo, while announcing the result, declared that Okowa satisfied all requirements of the party and emerged victorious with the highest number of votes cast in the primary election.
Meanwhile, in the Delta Central Senatorial District, the incumbent senator, Ede Dafinone clinched the APC senatorial ticket after defeating former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege.
Like the Delta North exercise, the direct primary election in Delta Central was monitored by INEC officials, with security agencies maintaining security across the wards and local government areas involved in the exercise.
Dafinone recorded a landslide victory, polling 116,252 votes, while Omo-Agege secured 3,643 votes.
The Secretary of the Delta State National Assembly Primary Election Committee and Returning Officer for the election, Barrister Nusa Amagbor, announced that Dafinone, having scored the highest number of valid votes cast and fulfilled all party requirements, was duly declared winner of the Delta Central Senatorial District APC primary election.
However, the national leadership of the APC, in line with its earlier directive, is expected to ratify the results and make the final official pronouncement on the outcome of the primary elections.
