COURT JUDGEMENT: PDP REPLACES SACKED EBONYI GOVERNOR

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has replaced former Governor of Ebonyi state, David Umahi, who was removed from office on Tuesday by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, alongside his Deputy, Dr. Eric Igwe.

They were sacked by the court following their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on which platform they were elected, to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The National Chairman of PDP, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, who disclosed the replacement with Hon. Iduma Igariwey on Tuesday at a world press conference on Tuesday in Abuja, hailed the judgement, saying that the judiciary was indeed the backbone of the nation’s democracy.

Ayu, who also named Fred Udeogu as replacement for the former Deputy Governor, Eric Igwe, said it was a landmark judgement, adding that the verdict would bring order in the political space and check the issue of political rascality and stolen mandates.

He said in line with the court order, PDP had submitted the names of its nominees to INEC and called on the electoral umpire to immediately issue the Certificates of Return to them.

PDP National Chairman also called on the Chief Judge of Ebonyi State to immediately swear the nominees in as soon as INEC issued the requisites Certificates of Return.

Ayu urged INEC to immediately withdraw the Certificates of Return from the 17 lawmakers also sacked by the court and commence the process of conducting bye-elections to replace them.
