Uche Bulu Ofu, a prominent PDP support group in Aniocha North Local Government area of Delta State, has adopted Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and a leading contender for the Governorship of the State under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as their sole candidate for the party’s forthcoming primary election.
The PDP support group which is made up of critical and eminent stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, unanimously endorsed the Speaker on Sunday, March 27, 2022, in an expanded meeting of the group’s National Working Committee, comprising, Town/Community Coordinators, Women Coordinators, Secretaries and 5 selected members each from the 10 wards in the Local Government Area.
Hon Emma Bazim Chinye who is the National Coordinator of the Group, presided over the crucial meeting, held at the Civic Centre, Issele-Azagba and was also attended by notable political figures in the area.
The Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on Political Matters and immediate past vice chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Tobe Richard Ukwamedua who is also a member of the NWC of the Group, hosted the meeting.
Giving reasons for their action and decision, Hon Emma Chinye in his remarks at the event, said that Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has all it takes to advance Delta State to another level of glory and development, noting that his experience as a two time speaker of the State House of Assembly, where he showcased himself as a detribalized personality, is an added value to his quest for the governorship of the State.
“Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is a true Deltan, he is a man that has the interest of the State at heart. The huge successes he recorded as the Speaker of the 6th Assembly and the ones he is recoding as the presiding officer of the 7th Assembly of the Delta State House of Assembly, have clearly marked him out as an astute administrator and a charismatic leader, needed to take over from our indefatigable leader and Governor, His Excellency, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, in 2023,” he said.
Emphasising the position of the group, Hon. Chinye, who also doubles as the Executive Chairman of the State Waste Management Board, said that they have seen in Oborevwori, a Leader that will be fair, sincere and just in the management of the affairs of the State, noting that as Delta Northerners, they are confident that the Speaker will not undermine any of the senatorial districts in the State.
He then assured that the group will not only work for his victory at the primaries, but will give him their block votes as critical stakeholders in PDP, Aniocha North and while reiterating the resolve of the leaders of the PDP in Aniocha North for a level playing ground for all aspirants in the forthcoming party primaries, stressed that all that they are demanding is a free, fair, transparent election of candidates in all the primaries for the various elective positions and not consensus arrangement.
The former commissioner in the State also said that their position has been made known to the Governor who is the leader of the Party and assured that as a Father and a leader with a heart of Gold, the State Governor will work for a peaceful and transparent Party Primaries, where every aspirant within the party will be treated fairly, even as he assured that the Group will continue to be at the front burner towards working and praying for Governor Okowa to finish strong and well.
The motion for the adoption of Rt. Hon. Oborevwori as the sole candidate of the group, was earlier moved and it was overwhelmingly and unanimously voted for by the entire members of the Group.
