Delta Governor-Elect, Oborevwori Sues For Unity, Peace, Love Among Ethnic Groups

The Delta State Governor-Elect, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has stressed the need for sustained unity, peace and love among the various ethnic groups in the State.

The Governor-elect stated this on Tuesday, May 9th, 2023 in Asaba, the State capital while playing host to two Socio-cultural groups; Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU) and Isoko Development Union (IDU).

Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori who is also the Speaker of the State House of Assembly and National Deputy Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, addressing the groups separately, noted that the charge had become imperative as it is needed in driving the desired socio-economic development in the State.

The Governor-elect, particularly tasked the groups on the need to ensure sustainable peace and security in their domains.

While commending the groups for their roles in ensuring sustainable development in the State, Oborevwori reassured Deltans that his administration would be all-inclusive, saying, “I will be Governor of all Deltans”.

“I am very happy with the visit of the leadership of the UPU, coming here today on a congratulatory visit is a good thing. We will do our best to bring development to all parts of the state. The leadership of the UPU must talk to our youths on the need to be peaceful always in order to attract the needed development and conducive business environment and so please try to talk to our people back home”, he said.

The Governor-Elect also said that; “I want to sincerely thank the people of Isoko nation for the love that you have shown to me. The State Government will continue to partner with the people of Isoko nation and other ethnic groups in the state. Let there be peace in Isoko nation. I want unity in Isoko nation. When there is unity, there will be development. We do not want disunity, there should be love to attract massive development”.

In their various presentations, the groups headed by their President Generals; Olorogun (Barrister) Ese Gam (UPU) and Prof. Christopher Akpotu (IDU) said they were in Asaba to congratulate the Governor-elect on his victory at the polls.

Describing his victory as well deserved, the president Generals enjoined the Governor-elect to ensure that he carry everybody along in his administration.

Speaking specifically, the UPU President General, charged the Governor-elect to ensure that he priorities payment of workers’ salary as well as that of pensioners.

Speaking further, the UPU President General, implored the Governor-elect to tackle the issue of unemployment through the establishment of industries to get the teeming unemployed youths in the State out of the labour market
