Delta State 8th Assembly Marks 2nd Anniversary, Speaker Pledges Continued Commitment to Quality Legislation

The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Guwor Emomotimi Dennis, has reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to delivering quality legislation, effective oversight, and robust representation as it marks its second anniversary.

Speaking at a press briefing in Asaba, Guwor expressed gratitude to God, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, his colleagues, and constituents for their support.

The Speaker highlighted the Assembly’s major milestones, including the passage of critical laws and resolutions aimed at improving the lives of Deltans. He noted that the House received 16 bills in the second session, with seven passed and six assented to by the Governor. Key legislations include the Delta State Child Rights (Amendment) Law, the Delta State Human Trafficking (Prohibition) Law, and the Delta State Electricity Power Sector Law.

Guwor emphasized that these laws are geared towards entrenching good governance, ensuring security, and fostering economic and human capital development in line with the M.O.R.E Agenda. He also commended his colleagues for their unity and dedication, which has made the 8th Assembly one of the most vibrant in the country.

The Speaker lauded the Governor for his support and the cordial relationship between the Executive and Legislative arms. He announced that the anniversary activities include a novelty football match and a thanksgiving service. Guwor also revealed that the Governor approved the payment of the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure (CONLESS) for Assembly staff, a move that would boost morale and service delivery.

On security concerns, Guwor extended the Assembly’s sympathies to affected families and assured that legislative measures are being strengthened to support law enforcement. He disclosed that a bill to amend the Delta State Community Security Corps Agency Law is under consideration.

Guwor appealed for peace and dialogue over the contentious issue of ward delineation in Warri Federal Constituency, urging all groups to allow federal authorities to conclude their work without rancour. He pledged that the 8th Assembly will remain steadfast in advancing the development, peace, and progress of Delta State.
