Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, has said the achievements of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration are too visible and verifiable to be diminished by opposition narratives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Aniagwu stated this while featuring on ARISE NEWS on Sunday, where he spoke on political activities in the state, recent clashes between rival political groups, security concerns and criticisms of the administration.
He said the government’s record in infrastructure, workers’ welfare, social intervention, economic management and development across the state provided Deltans with sufficient evidence to assess its performance.
The commissioner said opposition politicians had been unable to sustain their criticism of the administration’s performance because the projects and programmes of the government were visible across the state.
“Have you seen any one of them say Governor Oborevwori is not performing? Have you seen any one of them saying Delta is borrowing money? Have you seen any one of them saying there are no projects in Delta?” Aniagwu asked.
He acknowledged criticisms over the management of the state’s resources but said such claims should be supported by facts, noting that the administration had increased revenue, reduced its debt burden, paid outstanding obligations and sustained investment in infrastructure and social programmes.
Aniagwu said Delta’s Internally Generated Revenue had risen substantially since the administration assumed office, with the 2026 budget projecting N250 billion, while the government continued its debt repayment programme.
He said the administration was also deliberately translating improved state finances into grassroots economic benefits through workers’ welfare measures, empowerment programmes and interventions designed to strengthen residents’ purchasing power.
According to him, investments in roads, bridges, healthcare, education and other sectors demonstrated that available resources were being channelled into projects with direct impact on the people.
Aniagwu also dismissed suggestions that Delta was engulfed in political tension, describing the recent confrontation between supporters of rival political interests as a clash rather than an indication of widespread instability.
He said the government had directed security agencies to protect citizens and political actors irrespective of their party affiliations, stressing that nobody should be allowed to undermine the peace enjoyed in the state.
“Whether you injure somebody in APC, or you injure somebody in NDC, or any other political party for that matter, you are trying to inflict injury on a Delta or somebody who lives in Delta,” he said.
On allegations by former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, that his life was under threat, Aniagwu said anyone facing a credible security threat should present the evidence to the appropriate security agencies for investigation.
He said the government respected Omo-Agege as a political leader but rejected any suggestion that Governor Oborevwori was behind threats against him, insisting that the administration had no interest in political violence.
Aniagwu said the government would not allow political competition to distract it from implementing the MORE Agenda, adding that its approach ahead of 2027 would be centred on its record rather than mudslinging.
“Our campaign is going to be evidence-based. We will be showcasing what we have done, what constitutes our report card,” he said, listing infrastructure, healthcare, education, empowerment and financial management among the administration’s key areas of focus.
The commissioner also defended Oborevwori’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying Federal Government reforms had contributed to improved revenue flows and greater fiscal stability for states.
He said the administration would continue to present its record to Deltans, allowing the electorate to assess the government on projects delivered, policies implemented and their impact on the people.
