Tinubu Commends Security Forces as Abducted Oyo Schoolchildren, Teachers Regain Freedom After 56 Days

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Nigerian military, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force for the successful rescue of the abducted schoolchildren and their teachers from Oriire community in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, after 56 days in captivity.

The President’s commendation followed the successful operation in which all the victims were rescued unharmed, while eight suspected abductors were arrested and several others neutralised during a coordinated military, police and intelligence-led operation.

The President’s reaction was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, President Tinubu expressed profound joy over the safe return of the children and their teachers, describing the operation as a major breakthrough that brought an end to weeks of anxiety for the affected families and the nation.

He applauded the security agencies for their professionalism, courage and persistence in sustaining the rescue operation without any collateral damage, noting that their efforts reflected the government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives of Nigerians.

The President also expressed sympathy to the rescued children, their teachers and their families for the emotional trauma they endured during the period of captivity, while assuring that justice would be served against those responsible for the abduction.

Tinubu further vowed that his administration would ensure justice for the rescued victims as well as for the family of Mr. Oyedokun, who was reportedly murdered by the abductors during the incident.

The President also praised the Oyo State Government for its cooperation with the Federal Government throughout the rescue efforts, urging the state to strengthen security around schools to prevent similar attacks in the future.

He equally directed relevant emergency response agencies to work closely with the Oyo State Government in providing immediate medical attention, psychosocial care and other necessary relief support to the rescued children and their teachers.

President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s determination to rid the country of criminal elements and sustain ongoing efforts aimed at protecting citizens, particularly schoolchildren, across the nation.
