Over 300 protesters representing more than 3,000 landowners from Amachai Quarters in Ugbolu on Monday, May 4, 2026, staged a peaceful protest at the Government House to oppose what they described as an arranged and illegal acquisition of their lands for estate development.
The aggrieved landowners alleged that the process of acquisition was being carried out unlawfully, with authorities reportedly taking possession of the land by destroying existing properties using thugs, without prior valuation or enumeration, and without clearly stating the purpose of the acquisition.

Addressing Government officials during the protest, Chairman of the Landowners’ Committee, Mr. Chike Okocha, alongside legal practitioner, Bar. Dr. Nwaofili Okwuosa decried the development, insisting that due process must be followed and justice served.
The protesters, who vowed to reclaim their lands, maintained that their hard-earned investments would not be taken from them unjustly.
Receiving the demonstrators on behalf of the Delta State Government, the Chief Protocol to the State Governor, Chief Sunday Onorode, commended the protesters for their peaceful conduct and assured them that their grievances would be communicated to the the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for necessary action.
