Managing Director of Mosra Energy, Mr. Ramos Olukayode, has unveiled plans to establish a 600-megawatt coal-fired power plant in Obomkpa, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, following the discovery of more than 200 million tonnes of coal deposits across Obomkpa, Ugbodu and Ukwu-Nzu.
Olukayode disclosed this on Tuesday while speaking during the Energy Ecosystem panel session at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026 in Asaba.
He said the company had already secured over 200 hectares of land for the proposed power project, which is expected to provide reliable electricity for industries, stimulate economic activities and serve as the nucleus of a new industrial hub in the area.
According to him, the estimated 200 million tonnes of coal reserves in Obomkpa, Ugbodu and Ukwu-Nzu exceed the known deposits in Enugu and Kogi states, positioning Aniocha North and Delta State as emerging centres for energy production and industrial development.
Olukayode described the vast coal deposits as a strategic asset capable of driving Delta State’s industrialisation agenda, noting that the abundant resource provides a solid foundation for large-scale power generation, manufacturing and other industrial activities that would accelerate economic diversification, create employment opportunities and attract both local and foreign investments.
“The coal deposits in Obomkpa, Ugbodu and Ukwu-Nzu represent a major competitive advantage for Delta State. They are not only significant in quantity but also possess enormous economic value that can support the state’s industrialisation agenda,” he said.
Beyond the coal reserves, the Mosra Energy boss disclosed that Obomkpa and its surrounding communities also possess substantial deposits of kaolin and clay, which could support the establishment of ceramic, cement and other manufacturing industries within the proposed industrial hub.
He said the combination of coal, kaolin and clay resources presents a unique opportunity for integrated industrial development capable of positioning Delta State as one of Nigeria’s leading manufacturing destinations.
Olukayode urged the Delta State Government and private investors to leverage the state’s abundant solid mineral resources to reduce dependence on crude oil revenue and unlock new opportunities for sustainable economic growth.
His presentation formed part of discussions on the second day of the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit, where stakeholders identified energy, agriculture, mining, the blue economy, transport infrastructure, digital innovation and legal reforms as strategic sectors for attracting sustainable investments into the state.

Also speaking at the summit, the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori reiterated that the State could no longer depend solely on oil revenue, stressing that his administration remained committed to creating an enabling environment for private sector investment through improved infrastructure, policy consistency, enhanced security and strategic partnerships.
The governor said the summit was conceived as a private sector-driven platform to connect investors with bankable opportunities capable of accelerating industrialisation, generating employment and positioning Delta State as one of Nigeria’s leading investment destinations.
