Tony Elumelu Endorses Delta for Investment, Seeks Power Sector Collaboration

Chairman of Heirs Holdings, Mr. Tony Elumelu, has reaffirmed Delta State’s growing reputation as a prime investment destination, describing the state as ripe for profitable business opportunities while advocating a strategic partnership with the state government to unlock its vast electricity potential.

Speaking at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit on Monday August 3, 2026, Elumelu commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for providing purposeful leadership that has enhanced investor confidence and accelerated the state’s economic transformation.

“I want to congratulate our Governor for his visionary leadership and for the remarkable work he is doing for the people of Delta State,” he said.

The renowned entrepreneur, who hails from Delta State, noted that he has followed the state’s development over the years and expressed satisfaction with the increasing level of private sector investments.

“Through television, social media and other platforms, I have witnessed the impressive progress taking place. I see more investors coming into Delta State and new estates springing up. The state is changing positively, and we are proud of what is happening,” Elumelu stated.

He described Delta as an investor friendly environment with enormous opportunities for both domestic and international investors.

“Delta State is open for business. It is profitable, welcoming to investors and offers the right environment for sustainable investments,” he added.

Elumelu, however, maintained that the state’s long-term industrial growth would depend largely on a stable and reliable electricity supply, stressing that power remains the backbone of economic development.

According to him, Heirs Holdings and the Transcorp Group remain committed to supporting Nigeria’s economic transformation through investments in critical infrastructure, particularly the power sector.

“Everything we have discussed about economic growth ultimately depends on one critical factor, electricity,” he said.

The business leader disclosed that Delta State currently has about 1,000 megawatts of installed electricity generation capacity, which, if fully harnessed, could significantly drive industrialisation and expand economic activities across the state.

He, however, lamented that the available capacity is not being fully utilised due to persistent gas supply constraints.

“Delta State has close to 1,000 megawatts of installed generation capacity, enough to make a significant impact on industrial development and economic growth. Unfortunately, we are unable to maximise this capacity because of challenges, particularly inadequate gas supply,” he explained.

Elumelu urged Governor Oborevwori to deepen collaboration with private sector operators to address the existing bottlenecks, expressing confidence that such partnership would position Delta State as a national leader in electricity generation and distribution.

“Your Excellency, we are eager to work closely with your administration to find practical solutions to these challenges. Together, we can make Delta State a leader in electricity generation and distribution, ensuring that power becomes more available, reliable and affordable for businesses and residents,” he said.

He added that such collaboration would represent Heirs Holdings’ contribution to advancing the state’s economic development and attracting even greater investment.
