The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of allegedly orchestrating a disinformation campaign to discredit the party’s presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna on Saturday.
The council alleged that the purported plot involved the circulation of fake news, manipulated photographs, counterfeit documents and artificial intelligence-generated content to undermine President Bola Tinubu, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and other APC leaders.
The allegations were contained in a press statement issued on Saturday, October 24, 2026, by Dele Alake, Spokesperson of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
According to Alake, the council had observed what he described as a coordinated attempt in the preceding 24 hours to mislead Nigerians and create a negative impression of the APC rally before and during the event.
He cited the circulation of a photograph showing a security vehicle on routine patrol near an APC campaign billboard in Kaduna metropolis, alleging that opposition supporters had misrepresented the image as evidence that security personnel were deployed to protect the party’s billboards.
Alake further alleged that the narrative was published by a national newspaper before Atiku shared the report on his official social media platforms, describing the sequence of events as a coordinated effort to amplify what the council considered misleading information.
The APC spokesperson also raised concerns over a letter circulating online, purportedly written by Governor Uba Sani to the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, claiming that the Kaduna State Government had released N2.3 trillion to host the rally.
He dismissed the purported expenditure claim as baseless, arguing that the figure was inconsistent with the state’s budgetary provisions.
To support his position, Alake cited Kaduna State’s budgets of N458.271 billion for 2024, N790.439 billion for 2025 and N985.9 billion for 2026, maintaining that their combined value was still below the N2.3 trillion figure being circulated online.
The council also alleged that old, doctored and deepfake videos could be circulated during the rally to create the impression that residents were opposed to the APC and its leadership.
Alake urged Nigerians to exercise caution when consuming and sharing information on social media and other platforms, particularly content relating to the Kaduna campaign event.
He accused Atiku and the ADC of resorting to what he described as desperate tactics in their pursuit of political power, insisting that the alleged activities were intended to damage the image of the APC and its candidates.
The APC Presidential Campaign Council called on the public to remain vigilant and reject what it characterised as a deliberate attempt to manipulate public opinion.
