The Delta State Security Summit 2026 has commenced in Asaba, with stakeholders from across the state converging to deliberate on measures aimed at strengthening peace, safety and security in Delta State.
The summit, themed “Security: A Collective Responsibility,” is being hosted by the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.
The gathering is expected to attract a broad spectrum of participants, including security chiefs, representatives of the Armed Forces, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), chairmen of local government councils, traditional rulers, religious leaders, Presidents-General of communities, ethnic youth leaders, community youth leaders, civil society organizations, transport unions and market women associations.
The Secretary to the Delta State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, had earlier disclosed in a statement that the summit is designed to provide a platform for critical stakeholders to examine security challenges confronting the state and explore practical solutions to enhance public safety.
According to the statement, the summit underscores the commitment of the Oborevwori administration to strengthening the state’s security architecture through inclusive engagement, cooperation and collective action among stakeholders.
The state government noted that security remains a shared responsibility that requires the active participation of government institutions, security agencies, community leaders and citizens, stressing the need for sustained collaboration in addressing emerging security concerns.
The summit is expected to reinforce ongoing efforts by security agencies and community-based groups to tackle criminal activities and other threats to public safety, while charting a common course towards promoting sustainable peace and stability across Delta State.
