…As Ibori Pledges Massive Support for Tinubu, Oborevwori in 2027
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has directed the Ministries of Primary and Secondary Education to immediately assess dilapidated public schools across the state for urgent rehabilitation, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure and expanding access to quality learning.
The governor gave the directive on Friday during the inauguration of the newly completed Model Technical College, Oghareki, in Ethiope West Local Government Area, where he underscored the need for sustained investment in education at all levels.
“I have directed that all schools in Delta State that are in deplorable condition, whether primary or secondary, should be assessed for immediate rehabilitation,” Oborevwori said.
He charged the relevant ministries to commence the assessment and scoping exercise without delay, noting that the State Executive Council had already directed them to identify public schools requiring urgent intervention.
Oborevwori observed that maintaining more than 1,400 public primary schools and 480 secondary schools across Delta State was a substantial responsibility that demanded deliberate planning, consistent funding and effective management.
At the inauguration, the governor described the Model Technical College, Oghareki, as a significant investment in the future of young people, designed to equip students in Ethiope West and neighbouring communities with practical, marketable skills for employment, entrepreneurship and economic independence.
He said the institution was equipped with modern workshops, staff and student accommodation, as well as sports facilities, urging the management, teachers and students to maintain the infrastructure and preserve it for future generations.
The governor further disclosed that his administration would complete and inaugurate three additional model technical colleges at Irri in Isoko South, Kiagbodo in Burutu and Akugbene in Bomadi Local Government Areas before December 2026.
In a gesture to encourage academic excellence and promote technical education, Oborevwori also announced a ₦50 million education support fund for Miss Ogheneovo Davina, a Junior Technical II student who delivered an extempore address on behalf of her fellow students at the ceremony.
The governor highlighted his administration’s development efforts in road infrastructure, education and healthcare, citing ongoing improvements at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara, and the construction of four male and female hostels at Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, and Delta State College of Education, Mosogar.
He commended former Governor James Ibori for laying the foundation for several development initiatives across the state and called on Deltans to support the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, himself and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the 2027 general elections.
In his remarks, former Governor Ibori expressed appreciation to Oborevwori for what he described as impressive development projects across Delta State, particularly in Urhobo land.
He also acknowledged the role of former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, whose administration initiated the technical college project, commending Oborevwori for ensuring its completion and eventual inauguration.
Ibori assured the governor of the support of the people of Oghara and Ethiope West ahead of the 2027 elections, expressing confidence in the state’s leadership.
“We have prayed for grace and wisdom to pilot the affairs of our great state,” he said.
The member representing Ethiope Federal Constituency, Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, praised the quality of the project and the governor’s determination to complete it, describing the institution as an important investment in the educational advancement of the area.
She expressed confidence that the impressive turnout at the inauguration would translate into electoral support for Oborevwori in 2027, while commending him for promoting unity within the APC across political divides in the state.
Earlier, Chairman of Ethiope West Local Government Council, Hon. Christian Onogba, described the inauguration as a landmark achievement for the area. He said the governor’s development initiatives and political realignment from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC had helped strengthen unity across Delta State.
Speaking on behalf of the host communities, the Oghara monarch, HRM Noble Eshemitan, Orefe III, Uku Oghara Na Me, congratulated the governor on the completion of the project and its delivery for the benefit of the people.
In her address on behalf of the students, Davina thanked Oborevwori for prioritising technical education, pledging that the students would make effective use of the facilities to acquire practical knowledge, improve their employment prospects and become self-reliant after graduation.
She expressed her admiration for the governor’s leadership, adding that she would have voted for him in the 2027 election if she were already 18 years old.
The inauguration marked another step in the state government’s drive to strengthen technical and vocational education, improve public infrastructure and prepare young people for the demands of the modern workforce.
