UN International Youth Day: Elumelu Advocates Stronger Synergy Between Younger, Older Generations in Political Leadership, Governance

Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu has said that the combined energy, dynamism, agility and creativity of the youth with the competencies, experiences, skills, knowledge and wisdom of the older generation are needed to achieve a united, stable, productive  and prosperous nation, with a secure future for generations yet unborn.

Elumelu spoke on Thursday, August 11, in Abuja, while declaring open, this year’s United Nations International Youth Day, 2022, organized by the National working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, through the Office of the Party’s National Youth Leader.

He said that the event, with the theme: “Intergenerational Synergy in Governance” was appropriate, given the need for stronger synergy between the younger and the older generations in political leadership and governance, in Nigeria.

The Minority Leader charged  the youths to note that not only the future but the present also belonged to them and urged them not to be deterred, but spurred by the neglect, harassments, victimization of the present APC administration in Nigeria, which he noted, has been completely averse to the welfare and development of the youths.

“Such aversion is evidence in the lack of commitment towards job creation and provision of enabling environment for our youths to thrive in their chosen vocations; lack of commitment towards education, as evidenced in the closure of public universities and brutality against the youths as evidenced in the EndSARS protest killing.

“The way out is for the Youths to synergize with leaders such as H.E Atiku Abubakar, who has their welfare and development in mind, to achieve the nation which they desire.

“Atiku Abubakar will never sit back in Aso Rock and watch helplessly while our youth suffer the type of disparagement, abuse, humiliation, neglect and brutality that we have witnessed in the last seven years under the APC.

“Atiku Abubakar will never sit back and watch helplessly as our youth roam without jobs, our schools closed and bandits killing Nigerians with reckless abandon.”

While urging the PDP youths to remain united and position themselves for political leadership and governance through greater participation in political process and learning from the older generation of leaders, Elumelu called on them to  activate their networks across the country to deliver a winning campaign for the party in the 2023 general election, even as he advised them to be humble in their drive to succeed, knowing full well, that they are unstoppable.
