The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the elevation of 68 legal practitioners and one academic to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), one of the highest honours in the nation’s legal profession.
The decision was reached at the 174th plenary session of the LPPC held on Thursday in Abuja and presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, who is also the Chairperson of the Committee.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and Secretary of the LPPC, Kabir Akan.
According to the committee, the successful candidates were listed in order of their seniority at the Bar, having satisfied the stringent requirements for the conferment of the coveted rank.

Under the Academic Category, Prof. Nnamdi Onyeka Obiaraeri was also elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in recognition of his outstanding contributions to legal scholarship and academia.
The conferment of the SAN title is widely regarded as the pinnacle of legal practice in Nigeria. It is reserved for legal practitioners and academics who have demonstrated exceptional professional excellence, integrity, advocacy skills, and significant contributions to the development of jurisprudence.
The newly elevated Senior Advocates are expected to be formally sworn in at a ceremony to be held later in the year, joining the exclusive body of legal luminaries entrusted with upholding the highest standards of the legal profession in Nigeria.
