Concerns Rise Over Alleged 2027 Political Realignments Among Former Obi Loyalists, As Delta Voters Are Urged to Focus on Results, Performance Over Political Movements

A group identified as Concerned Citizens of Delta State has raised alarm over what it described as growing political realignments and alleged attempts by some elected officials to return to the political structure associated with the 2023 presidential movement led by Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement made available to journalists, the group called on residents of Delta State, particularly those in the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, to remain politically vigilant and demand accountability from elected representatives.

The statement noted that the 2023 electoral mandate secured under the Labour Party movement was driven by “hope, trust, and a desire for genuine change,” but expressed concern over what it described as a lack of visible constituency development and federal presence in some areas since the elections.

According to the group, citizens across several constituencies are increasingly questioning the level of measurable impact delivered by some lawmakers elected on the strength of the Obi political movement.

The concerned citizens also referenced ongoing political discussions surrounding alleged consultations and possible alignments involving politicians who reportedly emerged through the Labour Party wave in 2023 but later defected to other political parties.

Among those mentioned in the statement were Chinedu Obika, Ngozi Lawrence Okolie, Esosa Iyawe, Sunday Nnamchi, and Cyriacus Sunday Umeha.

The group expressed particular concern over the political future of Ngozi Lawrence Okolie, alleging that he benefited politically from Obi’s support in 2023 before later leaving the Labour Party for another political platform.

It further claimed that there are speculations suggesting some of the politicians may now be seeking opportunities within the emerging National Democratic Coalition (NDC) political structure following Obi’s reported association with the coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to the statement, such developments have generated concerns among citizens who fear that “the original mandate of the people may be diluted if political loyalty shifts away from the trust that brought these leaders into office.”

The group stressed that voters must remain focused on performance, accountability, and consistency in leadership rather than political movements or alliances.

“We cannot continue with politics where the people are mobilized during elections and forgotten afterwards, or where mandates are used as stepping stones for personal political survival,” the statement read.

The concerned citizens therefore urged the electorate to remain vigilant, ask questions, demand results from elected representatives, and protect what they described as the people’s mandate.

The statement concluded by emphasizing that Delta State deserves “stability, progress, and leadership that respects the trust of the electorate.”
