Hotels operating in Delta State have been reminded on the need to adhere strictly to the State government’s guidelines in their operations as contained in the COVID-19 protocols released by the government.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Chiedu Ebie made this known when he monitored the compliance level of the State government’s directives at some hotels in the State capital, Asaba.
Speaking on the outcome of the inspection, Mr. Ebie commended the Management of Elomaz Hotels for full compliance but was not satisfied with others inspected.
For the avoidance of doubt, he emphasised that the guidelines for the re-opening of hotels stated that they were allowed to open in-room dining only, while restaurants, bars and night clubs in or attached to hotels remained closed to both in-house guests and the public till further notice.
He stated that if the hotels continue to flout the guidelines, they leave government with no other option than to shut them down indefinitely as they potend a great danger to residents of the State.
Mr Ebie said that the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the State was a source of concern to the government hence it would ensure that it enforces the COVID-19 guidelines to the latter to manage the spread of the virus.
The SSG maintained that it was not the intention of government to destroy businesses but to ensure the safety of Deltans.
He equally reiterated that the use of face mask in public places was compulsory while also stating that social distancing should also be maintained so as to contain the spread of the virus.
The SSG was accompanied on the visit by the Hon Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu.
Hotels visited include Hampton Hotel, Okpanam, Golden Tulip Hotel,Top Rank Hotel, Vienna International Hotel, Toscana Villa Hotel and Elomaz Hotel all in the Asaba Capital Territory.
